The Barr Foundation awarded uAspire a $1 million grant to continue our research on college affordability best practices to better serve the needs of all students, in particular low-income and first-generation college-bound students. We are honored to be selected as a grant recipient through the Barr Foundation’s Education program.

uAspire will support the program’s goal of increasing the number of youth who connect to post-secondary success by redefining financial barriers to pursing education after high school. Through this research we aim to learn about the impact of early FAFSA and how students, counselors, high schools, and institutions of higher education experience and adapt their behaviors to changing financial aid policies and practices. This will allow us to identify areas ripe for systemic reform and advocate for policies and practices that will create a larger impact on the communities we serve.

Based in Boston, Barr focuses regionally, and selectively engages nationally, working in partnership with nonprofits, foundations, the public sector, and civic and business leaders to elevate the arts and creative expression, advance solutions for climate change, and expand educational opportunity. With assets of $1.6 billion, Barr is among the largest private foundations in New England and has contributed more than $710 million to charitable causes since 1999.
